Yarnie A person obsessed with all things yarn . They always have something yarn related on them. They are usually multi-craftual. (Knit, Crochet , Weave) With interest more in the yarn itself verse what is made with it. They often hoard yarn that is very expensive just because they like th e yarn. -Urban Dictionary I still can't believe I acco mplished this project. It took me a lot of planning and a few trial runs before I finally got it to come together properly and it sure w as worth it! I am pretty proud of this pillow pattern and I'm so excited to share it with you! 😁 This is going to be pretty long so let's not waste anymore time and just get right into it. This pattern requires a 20 in x 12 in pillow form and is constructed with two panels, a front and back. Basically two crochet patterns in one. 😉 I purchased my pillow form from Amazon .com. It was actually a little difficult to find the proper size pillow I was going to need. I'...
Everyone can use coasters, right?
I've had coasters on my list of crochet ideas for months now and once I realized I had some leftover velvet yarn in my stash, I immediately knew that I would use it to make these. It's the perfect color for my home too since it matches my decor well 😉
This project is awesome if you're a beginner crocheter or you are just looking for a quick and painless project. I used velvet yarn, but I think any bulky weight yarn would be great. Two strands of cotton held together could be a good option too since cotton is absorbent and easily washed.
Obviously you can use any yarn you like, however, the patterns may need to be adjusted slightly to get a large enough size if you choose to use a lighter weight yarn.
If you are a beginner, than I would suggest a bulky or even super bulky yarn that isn't too textured like velvet yarn is. It can be difficult to see the stitches and work on tension. If you are up for the challenge though then I would further suggest starting with the square pattern since it's a little easier.
OK, let's do it!
Abbreviations Used:
sc - Single crochet
ch - Chain stitch
sts - Stitches
- Yarn
- Crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors.
I used bulky (weight 5) velvet yarn and a 6.50mm or K hook.
If you use a different weight or textured yarn, you may have to adjust the pattern slightly to get an appropriate coaster size. Chain 10 stitches.
Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, single crochet (sc) in each stitch until the end of the row. You should have completed 9 stitches. Chain one. (ch 1) and turn your work.
Row 2: sc in each stitch (not into the chain one stitch from last row) ch 1 . 9 sts
Row 3-end: Repeat 'Row 2' until the desired height is reached. An easy way to check if you have a square is to fold your work on the diagonal and make sure you have two matching triangles (Reference the photo on the left).
To finish off your work, cut the yarn (leave enough of a tail to weave it in) and then pull that yarn tail through your chain 1 stitch. Pull tight, weave in the ends, and enjoy your super awesome coaster 😀
ROUND COASTER
Work 6 sc into a magic ring.

Place a stitch marker before you begin each round
Round 1: In each stitch, work two sc. Once you get to your stitch marker you should have completed 12 stitches for this round.
Round 2: Work one sc into the next stitch then two sc into the next after that. Repeat this pattern of one sc and then two, all the way around. 18 sts.

Round 5: Work one sc into the next four stitches, then work two sc into the following. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round. 36 sts.*
Slip stitch into the next stitch, cut the yarn and finish off. Weave in the ends!
*Now, if you need to add more rounds to make the coaster bigger then keep making rounds in this pattern of adding one more sc before you do the two sc.
Fun Fact: This is how you make little round face scrubbies too! Try it out with some cotton yarn and do as many rounds as you feel fit 😊
